David M. Davenport, J.D., Friend and Mentor of Wound Healing

May 22, 1944 – August 11, 2024

David Davenport was a kind and generous man who is already missed by family, friends, and colleagues around the world. David served as an entrepreneur as a co-founder of the Coates & Davenport, PC law firm, and as a leader amongst a variety of charitable and non-profit boards, including the Wound Healing Foundation.

The wound community is indebted to David for his generous pro bono giving of his time and legal skills, donating to both the Wound Healing Society and the Wound Healing Foundation. David spent copious hours crafting and honing the By-Laws of the two organizations and providing legal advice and letters to the appropriate authorities of which there were many. In 1994, David was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Society for his contributions. In 2013, David joined the Foundation Board of Directors and formally served for three years but continued to be available through 2023 for any questions we may have had. David’s insight and knowledge of people and topics provided the Foundation with invaluable advice, and we continue to use documents he prepared over 25 years ago. Furthermore, David served as a mentor, knowing when and what questions to ask so that our mission remained the focus of all discussions.
